5 Favourite #freefrom moments of 2014

Top 5 moments for people with allergies in 2014

WOW... 2014 has been an exciting year and some monumental things have happened for people with food allergies. Lets take a look back at what I consider to be the 5 best moments in the 2014 calendar for people with allergies. The moments I've chosen I believe are making people with allergies or specific dietary requirements lives safer and simpler, so in know particular order;

1. New Food allergy law launched and enforced in the UK

On 13 December, new legislation (the EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation 1169/2011) requiring food businesses to provide allergy information on food sold unpackaged. This law has made the life millions of UK allergy sufferers that little bit more safer and simpler when eating out and its law that was long overdue.

2. Launch of the 1st vegan butcher

Brother-sister duo, Aubry and Kale Walch launched the worlds first vegan butchers in Minneapolis. The Herbivorous Butchers is a traditional butcher shop, but everything is vegan. They use wheat flour as a base for their products and they've made it that little bit more eaiser for vegans to shop, I cant wait for something similar to launch in the UK.

3. Allergy FreeFrom Show 2014

I couldn't  miss attending Europe's largest Allergy free show and I tell you what, this event never fails to disappoint. I got the opportunity to discover some amazing new brands such as B Free , Ambu Tree and I also helped out on the Allergy Adventures stand. The event takes place in London and Liverpool and If you've just discovered you have allergies its an event you should definitely consider attending.

4. Launch of the 1st gluten free bakery in London

Romeos Gluten Free Bakery opened in Islington. All of the products are made on the premises in a gluten free environment. The bakery also caters for sugar free, dairy free and egg free dietary requirements. Discovering that there is now a bakery dedicated to people with allergies is a giant step forward. For someone with allergies to visit a cafe and not worry about cross contamination and know they are safe is truly amazing.

5. Napster co-founder donates $24M to build an allergy research centre

Sean Parker the first president of Facebook is violently allergic to nuts and other food. He has suffered from allergy attacks all of his life and has chosen to donate $24 million in the hopes of finding a cure for allergies. If this research helps to save one life, then its money well spent as far as I'm concerned.

I'd love to know what moments in 2014 you think have changed the lives of people with allergies for the better?
